Yesterday we drove from Sacramento to the East Bay and as people familiar with this route know, this means you drive mostly over I80.

For at least the last 8 years whoever runs California seems to think that the word 'free' in freeway means that these roads cost no money. Every year the potholes get bigger and wider. When they get a little deeper we can rename it officially "The Greater New York Freeway".

As I5 is in about the same sorry shape, that means that the two most important interstates in California are fast becoming undrivable and very unsafe.

Maybe it's time that taxes drivers pay for the privilege of driving actually goes to, you know, things drivers care about, such as fixing roads.
